The Warrant Protects

8th Session Recap

From Sarvas Gecko’s personal files:

After several tense moments and a frustratingly long conversation that I could not understand HD informed us that we had been invited to a feast in our honor. HD invited all willing to go to the feast with him. Anne, Victrix and Veridia accepted his offer. I was very torn. On one hand the knowledge and information to be gained by going with HD was appealing, on the other; this was still a very dangerous situation and Cornelius was still greatly at risk. He was not handling this ordeal well and HD was going to leave the shuttle (our only means of escape) with only one guard. The straw that broke pushing me to stay was that I cannot understand High Gothic. I would be left only interpreting xenos body language. Ultimately I decided to stay with the shuttle. I figured I could help guard if things went bad, I could keep Cornelius safe, I was not going to understand anything I saw at this time if I went, I may be able to sneak off and explore (that was shot down with a direct order by HD), and I could fade into the background. This is important because if things went well they would gain a better understanding of me (or a false one I do not wish to portray), and I would gain little to nothing from them. If it goes well I will have time to study the recordings and analyze their ways and what they said and show up better prepared than they will be for me. If things go badly I am on the only shuttle ready to leave. While I dislike missing out on knowledge I know my choice is the prudent one especially with Cornelius around.
HD informs me of their adherence to the faith in the god-emperor. I suggest he uses Torian York to his advantage with them. Torian will also know high-gothic. Also I inform HD of what I have learned from this place. The place was constructed clearly by Adeptus Mechanicus but was done so a long, long time ago. I come up with my best guess as to what had happened. I later find out my hypothesis does not exactly match what HD has been told by the xenos.
I start learning High Gothic from Westley.
After the feast HD returns to the shuttle and informs me of the agreement he has reached with the xenos. It is for the most valuable item in this belt, but is far from a fantastic contract. I need to learn High Gothic! It now becomes clear, it is very unlikely that these xenos mean us any harm unless we provoke them.
Now I have to take this contract and run with it. There is still A LOT of work to be done before this becomes profitable. Not to mention trading xenos technology back to the imperium may be legal for us but may be illegal for anyone who buys it. We will see where Victrix lies on this one. For she will be the key in making the tech “ours.”

7th Session Recap

From Sarvas Gecko’s personal files:

Venatus Acider, The man I put in charge of heading up the ship wide search for heresy discovered a man possessed by a demon! The charges were confirmed (or at least not denied) by both Preacher Torian York and Acolyte Rela. As we spaced him I couldn’t quite shake the feeling that I had made a mistake. His argument was heartfelt and compelling. [I lost sanity!]
Godfrey seems to have regrets towards Mafune Zulata.
I was able to point out a change in the patterns we were seeing from the scanner reports that lead Lan Se Hu to breakthrough discoveries while we were investigating the unknown system.
First Senior Officer Staff meeting! Yes, that is right folks, we have departed the Imperium, had a geller field collapse, spaced two men, and it is not until we come across an alien life form and unknown planet that we finally have a Senior Staff meeting.
• Invited: (head of table going clockwise) HD, Me, Westley, Victrix, Mafune, Anne, Verida, Lan, Hadril.
• Noteably Not Invited: Emma Drake, Torian York, Cornelius Gecko, Festus Gorath, Glorindra Liara, Godfrey Drake
• Topic 1: Xenos offer to meet.
o Their language is based off of High Gothic which shows past contact with the Imperium.
o They have valuable elements in their Astroid belt that could be mined for profit.
o They refer to us as the creators.
o Veridia was USELESS and a bitch by giving us know idea of where we really are other than some starchart coordinates that no one else understood. So shipping costs are hard to estimate.
o Orientor Marn insisted on joining the meeting, but was denied.
o Lin Se Hu hates xenos.
o Victrix really voted for taking the meeting only to agree with HD. Everything she said was a “no.”
o My opinion is the Xenos could be used for cheap labor to mine the resources for us, and disposed of later. They have had contact with the Imperium before so we need to get a look at their data records. Also they do have spacecraft. They may know of other nearby systems.
o Votes for the meeting with the Xenos (6): HD, me, Westley, Victrix, Veridia, Hadril.
o Votes against (3): Lan, Anne, Mafune
HD wants Aquri Lander or Guncutters (small spacecraft)
We departed the Arcadia in 3X-17 an Arvis Lighter shuttle with a cargo hold that can hold 12. Very curious that HD selected 12 to go (HD, Me, Anne, Westley, Cornelius, Veridia, Victix*, and 5 Hughes Family guards), but HD stayed in the cockpit the entire time meaning we could have taken another passenger. *=Victrix asked to go herself. Godfrey was our pilot.
As we arrived we came across a remarkable sight. Tens of eight-legged sentient beings were gathered before us as a royal welcoming party or a trap as they were all heavily armored with metal coverings. The site overwhelmed all of us. Remarkably I was able to keep my composure, though I am very glad that it is Horatio and not I who is in charge of opening negotiations. I am unsure how much longer I can keep it together.

6th Session Recap

From Sarvas Gecko’s personal files:

With the geller field completely inoperable the Lord-Captain and our first officer ordered the ship to translate back to normal space. Those most afflicted by occurance seem to have been Glorindra and Indra Liara, and one of choir Astratelepathica. HD held in his fear the best he could but his terror was evident by his shaking and trembling.
Magos Victrix found blatant sabotage done to our Geller Field, and had it repaired in one day. She tortured and flayed the tech-priestess responsible.
My disinformation campaign about the event being just a warp drive test worked wonders.
I heard the chanting of the words “Terran Gontrix” done with glee while I slept during our warp journey.
I tasked Acolyte Rela with heading the task of sweeping the ship for any problems caused by the geller field being down. She found Traxis Munn in his stasis capsule. She claimed him to be the center of some of the warp energies she sense. I told her we were lucky that he remained in stasis then and she should continue her searches. She pressed her case to open the pod all the way to the Lord Captain. He too would not open it in the warp if he was dangerous. She later revealed him to be a powerful psyker. On that note HD had him shot into the warp (not the way I would have handled this). Her inability to “play the game” has forced me to play hardball. It is time to crackdown on her and break her down before building her back up and making her an ally. While she clearly showed inexperience and bad judgment her pompous attitude makes me wonder if she is not in fact Interrogator Schratter. When pressed about authority she did not refer to Schratter she said Suetonius’ name, as if she had a closer connection to him. Also I know little of the Inquisition, but it strikes me as odd that they would send a lone Acolyte. I will have to monitor who she keeps as company. She may have other allies already onboard.
After spending 10 more days in warpspace than we expected we translated back to reality only to find ourselves nowhere near the Temple, and 239 days later than we left.

5th Session Recap

From Sarvas Gecko’s notes:

HD didn’t want to deal with Dragos due to time.
I created a disguise (very well 7 degrees of success) who I have named Thadius Zuran.
I need to talk to Paulo enroute about his reaction to Dragos’ servant.
I acquired a heavy loader, a stasis pod (poor), and a platoon of combat servitors (poor).
I met with Captain Zurat on his ship using my Thadius Zuran disguise, and obtained the info for the archeotech job. Back on the Arcadia I ran the numbers and asked HD if he wanted to meet with Captain Zurat. Our meeting went very well as (I netted 10 degrees of success) and the contract heavily favor us including payments for Zurat’s percentage being laundered through companies I setup so I can take a service fee. HD did not seem to have a good grip on the details of the negotiations, but he was wise enough to just let me handle them. I can explain to him later.
Somehow one of the 3rd battalion recognized me in my disguise and followed me to “keep me safe.” They will be more useful than I originally imagined.
Crimson Zell sent a functionary to meet with me for the Pirium flowers deal. Luckily I was in disguise and it appeared that I also sent a functionary. I too owned these negotiations (8 degrees of success). Once again setting up shell companies to funnel money through and keep more profits.
The Arcadia left Port Wander en route for the Maw when we ran into a vessel that was carrying Victrix. The enigma that is Godfrey Drake deftly maneuvered us in a very risky landing to take on Victrix.
Once we were in position HD gave the word and we jumped into the warp. The geller field flickered for a second then went out.

3rd Session Recap

From Sarvas Gecko’s notes:

Met with Lord Captain Horatio Drake (HD)
• While apologetic to the Godfrey situation in regards to me he did not seem to understand the significance of the blunder at first. It took some pushing but he eventually (at least partially) grasped the full range of the issue, and agreed to most of my fixes.
• HD had an unexpectedly ruthless desire for extreme punishment to the trader Malloc Enacius who had sold Godfrey the map when HD believed Malloc Enacius was besmirching the Drake name.
• HD is looking for a valet and tasked Orbest Dray to find him one.
• The pilgrimage of Orientor Hadrifax Marn “job” is being done for no pay. It is being done as “good will” to the Archpontifax Banion Trell. Whom, according to the Lord-Captain, we would not be leaving port had he not wished it. This may have been the news I heard about the warrant of trade being held up then miraculously being fixed. I must find out more about this Archpontifax, and his relation with Orientor Hadrifax Marn, who was clearly scared by our visit with the Inquisition.
• HD requested that Richard Drake, and the Rose of Anglica, be considered highly for any merchant vessels we will need. This will make is so easy to keep Richard nearby in HD’s replacement becomes necessary. Perhaps this is an example of HD keeping an enemy of his close so he knows what is going on. Perhaps it is simply him trying to get more profit for his Dynasty by getting them the trading contracts Perhaps he is oblivious to the lengths people will go to control someone in his position, or perhaps it is something much simpler. Regardless Richard Drake is not a sore subject with HD and one I can explore more with him later.
• HD went on and on about the new quarters he wanted and how great they were. He also expressed a desire for me to move my quarters nearby his new ones.
Ran into Paolo Rajoy as I was leaving the Lord-Captain’s quarters. He claimed to have a meeting with HD next. Ships logs turned up that Paolo was a functionary of Factor Orbest Dray’s during the ship rehab, perhaps he is the valet candidate HD asked Factor Dray to find.
Met with Crimson Zell
• She is a morbidly obese woman with a mechanical spider-like walking apparatus.
• To get the meeting I had to order Trelan Amasec from the bartender at the Rubicon II’s Day. What a horrible name for a bar.
• She informed me that Arturo Ramirez was about, but no details as to where.
• She had to profit opportunities for me.
o Transport Traxis Munn to Kaisus in the Accursed Domain. The fee she is willing to pay is so high than the ship’s PF could go up by one just for making the drop.
o The Archdutchess Tigien is simply mad, and has acquired a taste for a rare flower that grows on Pirium in the Accursed Domain. The collection and harvesting trade of this flower I estimate could come to about four PF. I suspect this flower may have some drug related use.
I acquired good quality furnishings for the Lord-Captain’s new quarters & a best quality disguise kit for myself. I was unable to acquire a targeting monocle and fancy guns for HD’s personal guards.
Met with Naomi Carter
• I put her on the payroll. I could have made her an indentured serf, but I chose not to push a contact as valuable has her. She is paid nothing for what she is really doing, but so much so that she will not look elsewhere.
• Malloc Enacius, a small time trader who took Godfrey’s money for a fool’s gold star chart, trades all around Rubicon II. He is known for being a weasel. He is also known to have just left Port Wander.
• There have been more and more rumblings about a increase in Battlefleet Calaxis activity at Port Wander.
• Possible opportunity…Captain Naron Zurat, a merchant captain for the Lorien Dynasty, found some archeotech artifacts on a world claimed by the Lorien Dynasty, but the Lorien’s have stopped paying him so he is willing to share the info with who will pay him.
• Aspyce Chorda had a run in with the Pirates of Inequity. She slaughtered those who did not surrender. Those that did surrender she lobotomized every last one of them and used as slave labor.
• The Leonidies Dynasty’s current head is Iradgan Leonidies with his flagship being the Pride of Smira. They are a very loud, successful and diversified Dynasty.
• Winterscale Dynasty is a major rogue trader dynasty. A whole section of the Expanse is named after them. Aspyce Chorda went to war with them.
I befriended members of the 3rd platoon. When I woke up my arm hurt from our night out. I need to use a disguise next time. I need to find out what they do on the ship. Potential ideas are to have them assigned to guard Hadrifax Marn’s cargo. That way when I sneak in if I get caught I can quickly change my tune to “testing the security we have in place.” I then “reward” them by telling them that their commanding officers will get my full report of their proficiency. This will go over easier with people I already know. As a bonus this will also make them look more competent and more likely to stay on the ship.
Sanyon Dynasty is a small fish rogue trader-wise. They are very cautious and mostly operate out of the Foundling Worlds area of the Expanse.

2nd Session Recap

From Sarvas Gecko’s notes:

Orientor Hadrifax Marn
• Wants to go straight to Footfall
• He is new to this area
• I made a good impression
• He is difficult to get info out of
• He stays away from Torian York
• Was very scared of the Inquisitor Suetonius who was posing as Interrogator Schratter, does he know more, or is he hiding something? ENEMY ALERT!
Large expenditures were authorized by the Drake family to Godfrey Drake. They were used for easily converted trade goods and spent on a star chart of Fenton Kali. Fenton Kail is a rogue trader from several hundred years ago who was convinced he found a STC. Everyone on Port Wander is convinced it is fool’s gold and the ship is a joke because of this purchase. The purchase also temporarily reduced our PF by five.
Torian York – not so fire and brimstone as most.

Horatio Drake:
• preformed very well on the spot
• wrapped Festus Gorath around his finger
• very interested in the navigators
Corneilius – did not talk to Festus at the dinner despite sitting near him.
Emma focused her attention on Torian York
Torian York focused his attention on HD.
Godfrey focused his attention on Indra and Mafune.
Anna needs guns and is very wary at all times.
Rela
• She is an acolyte of Interrogator Schratter. She is good or does not seem to know that the Interrogator is the Inquisitor.
Interrogator Schratter
• He knew of our destination of Luthian and was testing HD.
• He really is Inquisitor Swaytonis.

1st Session Recap

From Sarvas Gecko’s notes:

• Find a way to tag Lord Horatio Drake’s messages for review. Orbest Dray previously was monitoring messages for HD.
• Ship should be ready for departure in 5.8 months. Review the ship reports of Orbest Dray to speed up departure. Follow up meeting in one week from our arrival. I estimate the ship is space worthy now. We will be leaving in the week.
• Ship discipline is very poor.
• Aspyce Chorda – a rogue trader that has invited us to Footfall. The Chorda family is one of the oldest families in the Koronus Expanse.
• Need to obtain High Gothic
• Veridia, Dusilla, Glorinda, Indra Liara.
• Assigned poor quarters by Orbest Dray acting under my authority.
• Festus Gorath – Chief Tech Priest
• Captain Horatio Drake seemed to take great pause at the mention of the Inquisition.
• Slen – tech that has the big picture in mind. BEFRIEND him.
• Hadrifax Marn – Orientor of the Ordo Davidius. He is on his way to Luthien, a charted planet but it is unexplored and uninhabitated.
